GENERAL INFORMATION
A small town and harbour on the
west coast of Istra. It has a
population of 12 650
inhabitants. Umag is specially
known for its large
wine-cellars. Thanks to its
exquisite location on a tiny
peninsula next to a big
semicircular bay, Umag has
quickly developed into an
important tourist centre. There
are a number of modern hotels
surrounded by parks and
partially man-made beaches
arranged in such a way that each
has a different intensity of
sunshine and wind. Sections of
the defence walls dating from
the Middle Ages (14th c.) still
survive, and the mediaeval urban
layout has remained unchanged.
The baroque parish church (18th
c.) has a partly preserved 15th
century Gothic polypitch.
