PROGRAM:
The southern part of the Istrian
peninsula along with Pula houses
numerous classical monuments and
archeological sites dating from
the Roman period. This tour
offers visiting the old city
center and the Amphitheater. It
is well known that the Romans
often had lavish banquets and
the ostrich meat was highly
appreciated at those banquets.
It is interesting to note that
the ostrich was brought from
Africa, and the Egyptians and
the Romans used these strong
birds for pulling their
triumphal carriages. Ostrich
feather is a symbol of strength,
virility, but also sensuality,
and is often used as a motif in
heraldry. The most famous is
Prince of Gales’ coat of arms,
starting from Edward III
onwards. In order to get
familiarized with modern ostrich
farming, we suggest visiting the
ostrich farm near Pula. Our next
stop will be the wine cellar
‘Demijan’, where supreme wines,
as well as from ostrich meat
delicacies will be offered for
sampling. Wines ‘Demijan’ have
won prestigious awards at local
wine contests, and, gastronomes
say, blend in perfectly with the
ostrich meat. |
